Photochemistry
Exam-focused revision notes on Photochemistry for CSIR-NET Chemical Sciences, GATE Chemistry and IIT-JAM — the core concepts, the formulas worth memorising, the traps that cost marks, and a quick-recall table.
The core idea
Photochemistry is chemistry driven by absorbed light. A molecule absorbs a photon, is promoted to an excited state, and from there can react, emit light, or lose the energy as heat. The excited molecule is a different chemical species.
